Each winter, Steel Wheel Brewery hosts a Winter Course Series, highlighting experts in the area and sharing their knowledge (and a few pints) with our community! The 2026 course series is now posted and we have a lot to offer again this year! Be sure to sign-up for something you would love to learn! All course are for a 19+ audience and include one beverage.
Candle Making
Bayleigh Garner, Pleasant Ridge Candle Co.
Make a soy wax candle with a wood wick and add your choice of non toxic fragrance oils. You can choose your scent from a collection of 15-25 scents. Includes a label as a small memory of where you made it.
Everything you need is included in the course.
Sausage Making
Jamie Waldron, JWaldron butchers
Guided by Jamie Waldron of JWaldron Butchers, you'll explore seasoning blends, grinding techniques, and the step-by-step process of creating delicious sausages from scratch. Together, we’ll mix, stuff, and shape your own sausages while learning tips for food safety, flavour balance and cooking methods. Leave with new skills, recipes to try at home, and 2-3 pounds of your very own handmade sausages to enjoy.
Pizza Making
Justin Myers, Head Chef, Steel Wheel Brewery
Guided by Justin Myers, Head Chef at Steel Wheel, you'll discover the art of making handcrafted pizza in this interactive workshop. Working with your own dough you’ll learn dough management strategies and shaping techniques. Then you will build your perfect pizza with fresh toppings before baking it to bubbly, golden perfection. All materials are included - just bring your appetite!
Learn to Knit
Jillian, Cabin + Cove
Jillian from Cabin + Cove, will guide you through how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. You will also learn how to read a yarn label and knitting patterns.
Each participant will receive a knit kit with all the materials needed to get started including yarn, needles, a project bag and a knitting pattern for a beginner-friendly project you can complete at home.
This class is designed for people who have never knit before, or for those who need a refresher of the basics.
Japanese Kokedama Centrepiece
Sarah Evans, Belle Florals
Sarah Evans of Belle Florals will lead this hands-on workshop where you will learn to make a traditional Japanese kokedama (moss ball planter) and transform it into a charming fairy village. Each participant receives a plant, two types of moss, tools and twine for shaping and hanging the Kokedama, plus all the supplies to build tiny fairy houses—wood, wire, felt, paint, and more. A fun, creative way to bring a bit of magic into your home!
The Art of Foraging: Mushrooms & Edible Plants
Luke Eckstein, Experienced forager and nerdy biologist
Join experienced forager and biologist Luke Eckstein for an engaging introduction to safely enjoying the wild foods around us. Learn how to identify native and non-native plants and fungi, understand their seasons, and forage responsibly and sustainably. Luke will cover safety, plant and fungal parts, simple recipes, and the many benefits of wild food - from nutrition to traditional uses like medicine, dyes, and fibre.

Felting
Spencer Diamond and Stabby Gilmore,
Join us for a fun, hands-on needle-felting workshop with Spencer of All Trades and Stabby Gilmore where you’ll learn how to turn soft wool into charming little creations. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll explore basic felting techniques, experiment with colours and textures, and craft your own adorable felted piece to take home. No experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to play!
